FAQ – Deconstructed Timepieces
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Deconstructed Timepieces.
What materials are used in the sculpture? +
Each piece is built to showcase the beauty of mechanical watchmaking using premium display materials and horology-inspired elements.
- Carbon-look base: A hard, stable base with an elegant carbon-style finish.
- 10 transparent acrylic layers: Crystal-clear boards that create depth and visibility from every angle.
- Horology-inspired components: Artistic reinterpretations of gears, springs, bridges, and movement parts.
- Precision-cut acrylic: Designed for long-term clarity and durability.
Every component is positioned to form a three-dimensional composition that tells the story of horological craftsmanship.
How long does it take to make each piece? +
True craftsmanship takes time. Each deconstructed timepiece is handcrafted with care, and production typically takes around 1–2 weeks.
Creation process overview:
- Disassembly: The mechanical layout is carefully broken down by skilled artisans.
- Component mapping: Each piece is catalogued and assigned a position for optimal display.
- Layer arrangement: Components are placed across the 10 acrylic layers to build depth.
- Final assembly: Layers are stacked to create the exploded, 3D visual effect.
- Quality inspection: The finished piece is checked to ensure it meets museum-level presentation standards.
From start to finish, every piece goes through multiple hands and checks before it leaves the studio.
How are the watch parts arranged in the display? +
The display uses a layered system so you can see how a movement is built from front to back.
The layering system:
- 10 transparent layers: Each acrylic layer holds specific components.
- Front-to-back order: Parts are arranged in the same logical sequence as an assembled movement.
- Depth and dimension: The spacing between layers creates a pronounced 3D effect.
- Complete visibility: Gears, springs, bridges, and plates are all clearly visible.
- Educational aspect: The layout helps you understand how a mechanical watch actually works.
You’ll see dial and hands towards the front, gear train and escapement in the middle, and mainspring barrel and base plate closer to the back—essentially the full mechanical architecture, suspended in display form.
